Big Tesco Listing for Fan Favourite Honeycomb - Mackie’s of Scotland

Big Tesco Listing for Fan Favourite Honeycomb

Our increasingly popular and much-loved Honeycomb ice cream is now available in more stores than ever before, landing on supermarket shelves in over 500 Tesco stores across England and Wales from early March.

This new listing marks another in a recent spree of growth milestones we’ve seen. The Tesco makes up part of our having landed flavours in more than 1000 additional stores in the last few months alone. Asda and Morrisons are also increasing their distribution of Honeycomb, Raspberry Ripple and Traditional.

Mackie’s Honeycomb flavour has seen a meteoric rise over the past 12 months, quickly becoming a UK-wide favourite. Last year, we landed a nationwide listing for Honeycomb with Waitrose, seeing the flavour stocked in 245 of its stores, building on the success of a nationwide Sainsbury’s distribution deal for Honeycomb last year.

To create the flavour, Louise & Deirdre in the Sweetie Kitchen hand-make all the honeycomb puff candy in traditional copper pots, before breaking it up into small pieces. The little molten pieces are then swirled through our real dairy ice cream, which is all made on the family farm using fresh milk and cream.

Stuart, our Managing Director, said: “It’s fantastic to see new consumers buying into the Mackie’s brand, and particularly pleasing to then see them rewarded with ever increasing flavour choice and availability.

“Not only are these listings hugely valuable from a business perspective but it’s important to us that ice cream lovers around the UK can fuel their cravings that bit easier – whether they are Mackie’s fanatics or completely new to our product.”

The listings summarise Mackie’s recent success. Our turnover rose from £17.7 million in 2021 to reach £20.8 million in the last financial year, while also increasing our UK market penetration by 13%.

Building on our heartland following in Scotland, Kantar Worldpanel reported that Mackie’s customer numbers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland climbed from 939,000 in 2021 to 1,424,000 in 2022.

Stuart added: “It’s great to know that the team’s hard work in making our products is appreciated by our consumers across the country, and really exciting for us to be seeing such growth in the business as a result.”

“Of course, we have to thank our loyal customer base for continuing to support Mackie’s in all the wonderful ways they do. We’re very happy with how 2024 has kicked off and will continue to strive to hit our growth goals across the rest of the year.”
