Mackie's Ice Cream Van Climate Friendly Innovation

Nissan asked us to join in with Mackie's ice cream for the launch of their new electric van on clean air day last week. Our Sky to Scoop philosophy and climate positive credentials – made our ice cream the perfect fit for their demonstration of the innovative technology on board this zero emission Ice Cream van! The concept is a quirky ice cream van set up – where the server is on street level providing a soft serve scoop of Mackie’s mix or a scoop of one of our Traditional flavours. We’re delighted to have worked with Nissan on this project as it’s the perfect complement to our own vision of becoming self-sustainable in renewable energy – and eliminating carbon in the journey from ‘Sky to Scoop’.

£4m Low Carbon Refrigeration to make our ice cream even 'greener’!

This year we plan to install a new refrigeration system set to be one of the most sophisticated in Europe. In a £4million project, we’ll replace existing freezing equipment with low carbon, power efficient units run on ammonia - a natural refrigerant gas that poses no threat to the environment- having zero global warming potential. In an innovative combined solution, we will cool Mackie’s ice cream with heat  - from a biomass boiler, powered by a sustainable energy source.

North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2019

We were delighted to win the award for Best Food & Drink Tourism Experience, sponsored by ONE at the North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2019 last night – the judges we’re unanimous in their decision awarding the Best Food & Drink Tourism experience to our ice cream parlour Mackie’s 19.2. They were especially impressed with our “quirky products to grab attention, strong use of social media, video content and blogger engagement, they have attracted interest and visitors from all over the globe, putting the north east’s foodie scene firmly on the map.”
