Maitland Mackie CBE, Chairman

An innovative and energetic entrepreneur, the founder of Mackie's ice cream ignores all threats of retirement and is currently standing in as Grieve (farming foreman) - where the farm team are revealing some serious changes since he first studied Agriculture.

He has several other interests in his semi-retirement including Director of Lloyds TSB Scotland, Court Member at Aberdeen University, Director at Rowett Research Services and recent chairmanship of Scottish Agricultural College Board and Board Member of Scotland the Brand. He has always played a visible part in the farming community of Scotland including time as Vice President to NFU, Founder of Scottish Pig Industry Initiatives and chaired farm assured Scotch Livestock. He enjoyed two five year terms on the Agriculture Food Research Council, is past Governor of Rowett Research Institute and was Chairman of Grampian Enterprise. Awards include his CBE, an Honorary Doctorate from Aberdeen University and the David Black Award for his pig industry work.

Ongoing interests include his grandchildren, lowering his golf handicap (not difficult), skiing, Norwegian cottage life, sailing, fishing and improving his zither playing.
