Clarissa Dickson Wright opens Spiral Freezer

We were delighted to entertain Clarissa Dickson Wright to a tasting tour of the farm ice cream dairy where she officially opened our new spiral freezer.

Clarissa Dickson Wright on opening the freezer " Mackie's have always taken a perfect substance and turned it into something nicer. This use of real double cream and fresh milk is essential to good ice cream and with their new spiral freezer it is even smoother than I though possible"

We have installed a spiral freezer which can freeze up to 100 litres a minute. " This means we can produce increased volumes of ice cream and at shorter notice" comments Mac Mackie, Managing Director. "Quality of the product is also enhanced - fast freezing guarantees that the crystals form and freeze when they are at their smallest - resulting in a smooth texture"

A £200,000 investment for us, a spiral freezer takes tubs in on a conveyer belt, circles around and up a spiral between high blast freezers and emerge frozen hard in continuous flow on conveyor belt.

Rectorship at Aberdeen University is a role which brings Clarissa Dickson Wright to Aberdeenshire regularly where she is an enthusiastic proponent of produce local to the area.

SSPCA Sponsorship

Mackie's launched a secial appeal on behalf of the SSPCA - with two huskies cared for and rehomed by the SSPCA. Campaign encourages people to become a friend of the SSPCA - and the posters feature a kitten reaching up to a giant tub of Mackie's Traditional Ice Cream. These will be displayed on bus shelter sites in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Working with Animals and with many pet owners in our team - we feel that the SSPCA is a worthy cause. Half the households in the UK are pet owners and half of the rest would like to own a pet. Last year the SSPCA responded to over 142,000 calls and cared for over 17,000 animals. We look forward to working with the SSPCA - and enjoy seeing the huge Mackie's tubs!!! SSPCA have their own website at www.scottishspca.org
