Mackie's of Scotland are located at Westertown Farm near Inverurie in the North East of Scotland. The land has been farmed and managed by the Mackie family for over four generations.

Mackie's remain a family business, with Maitland Mackie, CBE continuing involvement as chairman and his son Mac (also Maitland) now at the helm. Also on the Board are both his sisters, Karin, Marketing Director and Kirstin, Development Director. In all, Mackie's employ 70 staff, most local to this rural community.

In 1986 the direction of the family business changed with a shift from traditional farming and milk retail into ice cream production. The transition was completed in 1993, when the family converted the traditional byre and old mill into a modern ice-cream dairy that can produce up to 10 million litres of ice-cream each year. In 1993 Mackie's added the New Product Development kitchen where several innovative products have since been conceived and created.

Mackie's have of 500 Jersey and Holstein milking cows which are used to meet Mackie's 'designer milk' requirement - because Jerseys produce the creamiest milk. The process from milking to ice-cream can be completed in under 24 hours.

Mackie's are committed to their farming roots pursuing an aggressive environmental policy alongside an innovative record in technology. A £1 million investment in robotic milking with installations of 9 milking robots. The farm itself covers 1,600 acres. Within this, 120 acres of deciduous trees have been planted and environmental corridors have also been created to provide habitat and surroundings to protect local wildlife.

Mackie's make ice cream with fresh milk and double cream, the most popular product in the Mackie's range is 'Traditional' - a smooth creamy ice-cream with no added flavours.

Mackie's ice cream is available nationally in most multiples and several independents. Mackie's has eleven percent of the premium ice-cream market in the UK and are the brand leaders in Scotland. Last year the company achieved sales in excess £7million.
