about Mackies

the New Product Development kitchen

Laura in the NPD kitchen
Our New Product Development Kitchen, officially opened in October 1996 by Lord Maclaurin of Knebworth, then Chairman of Tesco, provides the Kernel to our Growth programme and is a crucial resource which enables us to maintain the quality of our ice cream and look for new products and flavours.

Kirstin in the NPD kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with mini plant for ice cream production which replicates our ice cream dairy. The Kitchen is quite large and can therefore be used as a production area to test out a new product.

The objectives of Mackie's New Product Development Kitchen are:

  • To continually improve existing products.
  • To widen the varieties around the core products of each range and develop additional ranges.
  • To undertake 'blue sky' experimentation looking for innovative indulgence products and to start production on a small scale to test the market.
