New Product Development

Our New Product Development Kitchen

The New Product Development Kitchen was officially opened in October 1996 by Lord Maclaurin of Knebworth, then Chairman of Tesco. It is an important part of our business, the key to implementing innovation and crucial as the resource which enables us to maintain the quality of our ice cream and look for new products and flavours.
The kitchen is equipped with mini plant for ice cream production which replicates our ice cream dairy. The Kitchen is quite large and can therefore be used as a production area to test out a new product.

The objectives of Mackie's New Product Development Kitchen are:

 To continually improve existing products 

• To widen the varieties around the core products of each range and develop additional ranges.

• To undertake 'blue sky' experimentation looking for innovative indulgence products and to start production on a small scale to test the market.

Mackie's taste panel meet in our New Product Development Kitchen and perform an important part of our development and quality work. Members of the Panel are staff volunteers selected by passing tests which prove a high sensitivity for flavours and aromas.
