Scotland is the windiest country in Europe and wind turbines are forecast to generate electricity for approximately 80% of the time. This wind turbine starts making electricity with wind of around 10 miles per hour and only has to shut down in gale conditions.
As our business has grown, our energy requirement has grown. The graph shows how the turbines are producing far more than our business requirement and also the reduced reliance on energy bought – for periods when the wind does not blow or if our peak requirement is higher than capacity.
We are investigating the possibility of a biogas unit – to use the cow slurry to generate this continuous foundation level of electricity.
