The Trees

34 families

The trees chosen include, perhaps not surprisingly here in Scotland, many from the Pine family eg Douglas fir and Scot’s pine but also some more unusual examples like Korean Fir, Bhutan Pine, and a Norway spruce. Other families include the willow, walnut, birch (including a china ruby), hornbeam, hazel, beech, magnolia, witch-hazel, plane, rose (which includes the crab apple tree), pea, holly, maple and lime. Some interesting trees like a Japanese Umbrella pine have also been gifted to the arboretum. Halldis favourites include two sorbus from the rose family, a John Mitchell (sorbus thi) for its white flowers in the spring and an Olympic Flame (sorbus dodong) which lives up to it’s name with beautifully bright red and orange colouring in the Autumn
