The Halldis Mackie Arboretum
120 acres of the farm have been planted with trees and an arboretum is in early stages of growth. Halldis Mackie, a retired GP from Insch, and non-executive Director of Mackie’s of Scotland, is creating a new arboretum at Mackie’s Westertown farm. An arboretum is a collection of trees, and this collection has, so far, 147 trees, with 112 different species of tree from 34 families. This is a young arboretum, just at the beginning of its life and should be truly majestic for visitors in 30 years time! However it is already a place of interest as the young trees establish themselves and show their different foliage and colours. The long term aim is to enhance the environment for everyone living and working at the farm, and create an arboretum area which generations of Mackie’s staff, families and visitors will enjoy
