Our People

Mackie’s business owes its success to the people working here – a loyal, flexible and energetic workforce who all help us carry out the varied tasks which enable us to keep making ice cream - and join in the challenge to do that and have fun.

Our vision is for Mackie’s to be a global brand from the greenest company in Britain created by people having fun.

Ice cream is a fun product and an indulgent treat and we would like to be making it with a happy team. That’s our challenge. We do celebrate achievements along the way with staff in addition to a business performance related bonus scheme. We have a staff of just over 70 people, 12 of whom have now been with us for twenty years. In fact, the average tenure is 9 years so we hope that means it is a good place to work.

In 2011, Mackie’s have a staff of 70 (currently just over half are women) and many of our team have been with the business for most of their working lives. We have a memorial wall with name plaques to celebrate those with an achievement of 20 years service.

Senior Management members include Chairman Maitland Mackie (52 years with Mackie’s), Managing Director Mac Mackie (17 years), Sales Directors Denis Emslie (25 years) and Ivan Jefford (10 years) , Production Manager Rhona Wight (25  years), Marketing Director Karin Hayhow (nee Mackie) (13 years), Development Director Kirstin Mcnutt (nee Mackie) (14 years) , Farm Manager David Hay (18 years), Cattle Manager Jim Petrie (30 years) – so the senior management team alone has over 200 years of experience !
